News Category: US News Airport Waste – Handled with Care 18 November 2009
Foreign air traffic to Orlando's airports brings with it significant quantities of waste, which must be accepted at the airports as the aeroplanes are prepared for return flights. The waste is removed from aircraft in distinctive red bags, handled only by specialists and segregated until it can be incinerated or sterilised.
"They're very careful in how they handle that," said John Kasper, an engineer in the Orange County Environmental Protection Division. "They're treating it like an infectious medical waste."
