Vehicle and Industrial Batteries Banned from Landfill and Incineration
14 January 2010

The Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations 2009 came into effect on 1 January 2010. Under the regulations producers placing more than one tonne of portable batteries onto the market in a calendar year are expected to have signed up to one of the seven batteries compliance schemes that were approved by the Environment Agency in September 2009. The regulations also ban the disposal of waste automotive and waste industrial batteries to landfill or by incineration.
