News Category: Other news First WEEE Prosecution 14 January 2010
SITA Metal Recycling has become the first company to be prosecuted by the Environment Agency for breaching Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations, more than two and a half years after the legislation first came into effect.
The company pleaded guilty to four offences in relation to errors made when issuing WEEE recycling evidence in 2007 and 2008 and, in a hearing at Norwich Magistrates Court on Monday January 4 2010 was fined £4,000 and ordered to pay full costs of £4,456.
