Britain Faces Fines from Europe for Failing to Recycle Enough Batteries
15 February 2010

From February 2010 shops selling over 32kg of batteries per year will need to provide battery recycling points in order to help Britain meet EU targets to recycle 10% of all batteries by the end of the year. However, Britons currently recycle just 3% of the 600 million batteries used every year and many may not be aware of the new recycling scheme. If the UK fails to meet the target, the Government could face a fine of millions of pounds.
