News Category: UK Waste Legislation and Guidance End of Waste Criteria for the Production of Processed Fuel Oil from Waste Lubricating Oil 30 September 2009
The draft “Processed Fuel Oil Quality Protocol” was published in August 2009 and sent to Defra for onward notification to the European Commission Technical Standards Committee, in accordance with Technical Standards and Regulations Directive 98/34/EC. Subject to the response, publication of the final version of the Quality Protocol is anticipated in Spring 2010. A Quality Protocol is a formalised quality control procedure. It outlines how producers can demonstrate when a waste becomes a recovered resource that can be marketed as a product in its own right. This Quality Protocol will provide clarity to industry about how to recycle waste lubricating oil and aims to help increase the amount of oil which is fully recycled, therefore creating benefits for business and the environment. More information, and a copy of the draft Quality Protocol, is available here: http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/business/topics/waste/96043.aspx In June 2009 Defra published a Quality Protocol on the end of waste criteria for the production and use of biodiesel derived from waste cooking oil and rendered animal fat (quality biodiesel).
