of exports of metallic mercury and certain mercury compounds and mixtures and
the safe storage of metallic mercury 29 October 2009
In October 2009, Defra launched a consultation on the above European Regulation,
which bans the export of metallic mercury and certain mercury compounds and
mixtures. It also requires all companies that produce or gain mercury to forward
all relevant data related to the decommissioning of mercury cells in their plants
to the Commission and competent authorities of the Member States. The consultation
sought views on how the UK proposes to implement the enforcement obligations
as laid down by this EC regulation. The storage obligations of this regulation
will be dealt with in a later consultation.
