New Sites Added to Superfund List
29 October 2009

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a final rule under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) that adds 11 hazardous waste sites to the National Priorities List (NPL) of Superfund sites. The 11 newly listed sites are in California, Indiana, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Puerto Rico. The new listings bring the total number of sites currently on the NPL to 1,271. In a companion proposed rule under CERCLA, the EPA is proposing to list another 10 sites on the NPL, bringing to 66 the number of sites that are awaiting a final listing decision.

More information about Superfund sites is available on the EPA website: http://www.epa.gov/
